Torquay history

Torquay has been inhabited for over 400,000 years but it was in Victorian times that the town took off due to its station and attractive mild climate.  During the late nineteenth century Torquay became very popular and as a result it has many fine period buildings. For those interested in property, visit Hesketh Crescent in Torquay, a great example of  a Georgian crescent.  In the 1970s, Torquay was famously the setting for the hotel in Fawlty Towers.
