Probably Tavistock’s most famous event is the week long Goose Fair, which takes place in October. This fabulous Tavistock festival dates back to the 12 Century. These days, visitors can expect to see over 250 stalls and sideshows from all over the country. Tavistock’s “Wharf Centre” regularly show a great range of cinema, theatre and music, and has frequently changing art exhibitions on display, showing everything from Tavistock to international artists. Another feature in the Tavistock calendar is the Dickensian Christmas evenings in the square. Year round visitors can enjoy the historic Pannier Market in Tavistock Town Hall, and twice a month can indulge in the gourmet wares on sale in the famous Tavistock Farmers Market – voted best in the South West.
Tavistock day trips
Tavistock’s location on the Devon and Cornwall border means that it is ideal for exploring the region. All of Devon and Cornwall’s most famous attractions such as the Eden Project are within easy driving distance of Tavistock. Although not by the coast, Tavistock is only a short journey from some of the South West’s most beautiful beaches and ports. Or if you prefer only a very short drive, the Tamar valey and of course Dartmoor are right on Tavistock’s doorstep for some of the most spectacular scenery, a profusion of flora and fauna and numerous attractions and activity centres.
