The entire coastline, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, form most of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.   With its rolling hills, wooded river valleys, patchwork fields, sandy beaches, a spectacular coast line and small picturesque villages. There are ample opportunities to walk, sail, surf, windsurf, fish, ride, golf etc. as virtually every sport and outdoor activity is well catered for.

The South Hams always enjoys one of the mildest climates in Britain, protected as it is by Dartmoor National Park to the North and lapped by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream to the South – even the name ‘Hammes’, is taken from the Anglo-Saxon for ‘sheltered place’.

Kingsbridge is an ancient market town and the historic and natural centre of the South Hams. Kingsbridge can truly claim to be the “hub of the wheel” from which to explore this beautiful area.

Modbury is a small but incredibly diverse town that has developed a reputation as a local centre for antiques and furniture.  It is centered around the Plymouth - Kingsbridge road between the Avon and Erme rivers.
Salcombe is popular with visitors and locals alike.  The sheltered waters of the estuary are famed as some of the country’s best sailing waters, attracting numerous competitions throughout the year. They are also renowned for the rich ecosystem of bird and plant life they support - many rare species of plant, some not found anywhere else in the UK, flourish here.

Torcross, stands at the western end of famous Slapton Ley and has a wildlife centre for the lake and marshlands.

Bigbury-on-Sea at the centre of Bigbury Bay, is famed for its fine sandy beaches. In high season the UKs only “Sea Tractor” operates across the river to and Burgh Island carrying you across the sand spit connecting Burgh Island to the main land.  Nearby Bantham is reputed to be the best surfing beach on Devon’s South Coast.

Stoke Gabriel is a peaceful and picturesque village nestled on a creek beside the River Dart.  This ancient and unspoilt village makes a perfect tranquil retreat.
