Somerset

Somerset is one of those counties where you get the best of all worlds; long stretches of sweeping beaches, amazing steam railways, wild inland countryside full of myth and tales of King Arthur, charming villages with delightful cottages and period proprieties, fantastic pubs, great beers, welcoming locals, and more than its fair share of country estates and impressive country houses.

Alongside festivals such as Glastonbury are stunning and architecturally rich cities that include Wells, great attractions such as the Fleet Air Arm Museum, and natural spectacles that include the caves at Wooky Hole and Cheddar Gorge.

In total there are three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock Hills, the Blackdown Hills and the Mendip Hills, as well as the haunting Exmoor National park. Add to this the internationally important area of the Somerset Levels and Moors where traditional crafts still bind together the tapestry of West Country life, and Somerset has a rich choice of heritage, activities and interests to keep even the most discerning of visitors beguiled.
