Newquay beaches

NewquayNewquay’s 10 expansive, accessible sandy beaches are a sandcastle maker’s paradise! There are plenty of surf schools if you fancy taking up the sport, and Fistral Beach is host to many international surfing competitions. Other Newquay surf spots to try on your holiday include Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne and Crantock beaches and Watergate Bay.

Eating in Newquay

Food connoisseurs and families will be spoilt for choice on their holiday in Newquay, with a huge range of beach cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes. Watergate Bay is home of Jamie Oilver’s Fifteen restaurant, whilst the nearby Beach Hut is a beachside hangout where the glorious Cornish sunsets can be enjoyed. Lewinnick Lodge on the Pentire headland boasts stunning views, and seafood lovers will enjoy The New Harbour Restaurant, which specialises in the region’s fresh fish bounty.

Exploring Newquay

As a self-catering holiday destination, Newquay is perfectly positioned for exploring many award-winning attractions such as the Maritime Museum and the Eden Project. Closer to home you can relax at the Fistral Spa, whilst youngsters can go on an Undersea Safari at Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium. Walkers have the South West Coast Path to explore and the warmth of the Gulf Stream means gardens such as Heligan have a wealth of rare and beautiful plants on show all year round.

St Mawgan

St Mawgan in north Cornwall is a traditional, sleepy Cornish village. St Mawgan is situated only a few miles from the popular tourist resorts of Newquay and Watergate Bay. The village itself is located to the west of the wooded Vale of Lanherne.

St Mawgan Parish church is the focal point of the village. The church was inhabited by the Arundells of Lanherne from around 13th to 18th centuries. Also located within the village is a cricket ground, ancient inns and a convent.

Travelling to North Cornwall

Newquay Cornwall Airport is also located on the outskirts of Newquay. The airport has expanded over recent years and now offers flights from a variety of airlines including British Airways, BMI Baby and Ryan Air.
