The history of Lynton and Lynmouth
Lynton and Lynmouth became a popular holiday destination for people in Victorian times. It was thought that the fresh sea air was medicinal and people travelled to Lynton and Lynmouth to enjoy the spectacular views and scenery of both the North Devon coast and Exmoor. Lynton and Lynmouth have a unique and famous cliff railway that links the two twin villages. This was built by the Victorians to make access between the Lynton and Lynmouth easier.
The beauty of Lynton
Lynton sits 500 feet above Lynmouth and a lot of the holiday cottages in Lynton have unbroken views of the sea. The spectacular Valley of the Rocks can also be seen from Lynton. Lynton has lots of winding small streets and pretty small cottages and houses. The cliff railway leaves from the centre of Lynmouth and has the most spectacular views has you travel down to Lynmouth.
The beauty of Lynmouth
Lynmouth is situated 500 feet below Lynton and is an old fishing village with a picturesque harbour. The river Lyn flows through the centre of Lynmouth and has a pretty footbridge over it onto the village green. Lynmouth has a small patch of beach that gives you the opportunity of a sun bathe or a chance to build a sandcastle or two. When holidaying in Lynmouth you will have views over the harbour to the sea.
