Why not give mum a real treat on her special day this year and whisk her away to the South West, and while you’re here, treat her to a slap-up meal in one of the region’s best restaurants or enjoy a fun day out?
There is plenty happening to suit all ages, and if mum is away from the family home she’ll also be away from all the daily chores and will feel completely rested and appreciated. Don’t forget to do the washing up after breakfast though!
Below are just some of the events taking place throughout Devon and Cornwall on and around Mother’s Day on Sunday 2nd March.
Newquay Zoo
Rise n’ shine early on Mother’s Day this year and make sure your mum is among the first 20 to arrive at Newquay Zoo, where she can benefit from Free admittance!
Stuck for ideas for a present? For just £25, on the 2nd March only, your mum can adopt any animal in the zoo for a year and also receive one free visit, a name plaque near to her chosen animal and a photograph of her adopted animal besides other goodies.
Sample some Fair Trade and Cornish Produce as part of Fair Trade Fortnight, which runs at the zoo on 1st-2nd and 8th-9th March. Mum and her family might also want to join the Pesky Piskie Trail around the Cornish Dragon maze which runs from 1st March to 30th April and discover more about native wildlife in Cornwall, local myths and legends plus tales of Cornish inventors and explorers such as Cousin Jacks, the miners who emigrated to work in the mines of South America, Africa and Australia. Dad can take away some Piskey wildlife-friendly gardening tips.
As a bonus to Blue Chip clients, the zoo is offering £1 discount on normal entry price per person for up to six people up until December 31st 2008 on production of the Blue Chip invoice or booking confirmation. Padstow
Padstow has become inextricably linked with Rick Stein over the years, and with his love of seafood – a West Country speciality – it’s easy to see why. You can easily spend a day strolling around this old medieval town, which is still a working fishing port, and still want to come back for more. Why not give Mum a big treat and buy her breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening dinner on her special day? She will really appreciate not having to cook or prepare food.
Rick Stein owns four restaurants and cafés in Padstow plus a patisserie and a deli. You could start off in the café, with either a typical English breakfast, or go for the more exotic Huevos Rancheros (tortillas with fried eggs and tomato chilli sauce), finishing off with toasted banana loaf with honey and fresh banana. Rick Stein’s Café also serves lunches (with a special children’s menu) and a set evening meal at £21.95 in addition to the à la carte. For a luxury lunch at a knock-down price, Rick’s French/Mediterranean St Petroc’s Bistro is serving three courses for just £15. Choose from fish or meat. To savour a seafood extravaganza, sit down at Rick’s original restaurant, the Seafood Restaurant, where a three-course lunch will cost £28.50.
