Dartmouth
Steeped with architectural beauty, pretty narrow lanes and natural elegance, Dartmouth is the jewel in the South West. Renowned for its boutique shops and galleries, delightful delicatessens, gourmet restaurants, harbour side and port it has something to suit every taste.
Situated directly on the River Dart, Dartmouth has many events and delights to enjoy throughout the year such as The Dartmouth Royal Regatta, the music festival, the food and wine festival and for food lovers there are many fine restaurants to tantalize your taste buds. Plus, the waterfront bars and cafes are the perfect places to sit and watch the world go by.
There are many attractions close by including The Flavel, in the town centre which offers a selection of cinema, art, theatre, talks, live music, kids’ clubs, café, workshops and rainy day events. Dartmouth Castle, where you’ll embark on an exciting journey through medieval times to WWII with stunning views of the River Dart, areas of National Trust and Woodlands Leisure park.
Nearby beaches, coastal walks and The English Riviera are just a short ferry ride away and offer a wealth of activities and adventure!
Kingswear
Kingswear is situated on the banks of the River Dart, and has a quiet villagey feel to it away from the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. Regular car and passenger ferries cross the River Dart to Dartmouth, where you will find beautiful boutiques, antiques, art galleries and plenty of restaurants and café’s. You can also take a boat trip to Torquay and Brixham, taking in more of the spectacular coastline.
Kingswear village is a quiet retreat and comprises a village store, a post office, and a few pubs and restaurants.
The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway finishes here and is a step back in time to a forgotten era. It runs from April to October and on selected days in December for special Christmas trips, and cuts through some of the most beautiful countryside on the English Riviera.
Close by is the National Trust property, Coleton Fishacre, an Arts and Crafts-style house with an elegant Art Deco-influenced interior. The gardens are particularly spectacular and include many rare and exotic plants.
By car, Brixham is 4 miles, Paignton is 7 miles and the cosmopolitan town of Torquay is 11 miles away.
In September South Devon hosts a walking festival with a wide variety of activities taking place. For more information on the festival please see http://www.southdevonwalkingfestival.co.uk/.
