Hartland & Clovelly
The villages of Hartland and Clovelly lie midway between Bideford and Bude on the rugged North Coast of Devon. Clovelly is a picturesque fishing village, preserved authentically as it would have been in the mid 19th Century. The village is made up of original fishermen’s cottages' lining narrow cobbled streets that wind down a steep cleft in the cliff face to a tiny harbour and quayside. Hartland is a larger village, slightly inland in a more sheltered position. Both are charming destinations packed with galleries, museums, local arts and craft centres, and shops full of local produce.
Despite being a sparsely populated region, you will not run out of things to do. Discover the architectural gems of the 12th Century Hartland Abbey, with its stunning formal and kitchen gardens and its neighbour - the 128ft tower at the Church of St Nectan – described as “the Catherdral of North Devon”. Families can enjoy a fun filled day at the Milky Way Adventure Park at Higher Clovelly, or a day at the beach, a bike ride or even pony trekking through this lovely landscape. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round at the Hartland Forest Golf Course or the prestigious Royal North Devon course at Westward Ho! Or you could take some time to discover the local hospitality at one of the many country pubs scattered across the area.
