Fowey pronounced “Foy” is an historic fishing port situated on the south coast of Cornwall between St Austell and Falmouth. Fowey stretches from the mouth of the River Fowey to about a mile along it’s west bank. Fowey has a natural harbour and attracts many yachts. Fowey is principally a harbour and riverside location; however, there are some of South Cornwall’s most beautiful sandy beaches and secluded coves in close proximity to Fowey. The charmingly named Readymoney Cove is within walking distance of Fowey, and provides access to the dramatic St Catherine’s castle. There are also several smaller coves both side of the mouth of the River Fowey, it is advisable to check at Fowey Tourist Information Centre as they are not always accessible at high tide. If you prefer a more open stretch of sand, then Fowey is only a few miles from the beaches at Par Sands and Carlyon Bay.
Fowey has great transport connections. It is easy to reach by car as Fowey is less than 10 miles south of Bodmin which sits on the two major westcountry routes of the A30 and the A38. The nearest train station to Fowey is the nearby town of Par, and nearest National Express stops are at St Blaze or St Austell - all are connected to Fowey by a regular First bus service. Fowey is also not far from the airports at Newquay (30miles) and Plymouth (40miles) for those wishing to fly to Fowey. Fowey sits on the opposite bank of the River Fowey to the quaint village of Poluran, which is connected to Fowey by a passenger ferry service. Further up the river, Fowey is linked by two car ferries to the town of Bodinnick over the river.
