Devon and Cornwall are an angler’s paradise and perfect for a fishing holiday, whether you like sea fishing, coarse fishing or fly-fishing. Many Blue Chip Vacations properties are close to fishing venues, and those near the beach or harbour will have easy access to fishing. The properties listed below all have onsite access to coarse or River fishing included in the price of your stay.
Sea fishing in Devon & Cornwall
You can organise a fishing trip with a local charter skipper but if you’ve never fished before, try one of the many half-day mackerel trips on offer, ideal for beginners. Devon and Cornwall offer plenty of locations ideal for fishing holidays, whether you’re an experienced angler or a novice.
For anglers who like fish with big teeth, the shark and conger season commences at the beginning of June. The sharks are tagged and released for conservation and scientific study. Looe in Cornwall is well known for its blue and porbeagle shark and is home of the Shark Club of Great Britain.
Closer to your seaside property you can fish from the harbour walls, breakwaters, piers and rocks where hungry bass and pollack patrol. Popping into the local tackle shop should ensure that you get onto the right marks. For those who enjoy beach fishing, fish early in the morning and in the evening when the beaches empty. You’ll often find locals fishing then, and they may even tell you about a few local marks if you’re lucky.
River Fishing in Devon & Cornwall
Rivers in Devon and Cornwall have runs of salmon and sea trout as well as resident brown trout and grayling; check with the local tackle shop about permits and seasons. There are also many reservoirs well worth a visit on a fishing holiday. These are excellent venues for the beginner as they often have resident instructors who can teach you how to fly fish. The reservoirs are stocked with brown and rainbow trout and day tickets won’t break the bank.
Coarse anglers will find plenty of stocked lakes in Devon and Cornwall but worthy of mention is White Acres Coarse Fishery near Newquay, which offers some of the best variety of coarse fishing in the country.
