Dartmouth & Kingswear
Dartmouth and Kingswear provide the perfect base from which to explore the South Hams. They are elegant towns facing each other on opposite banks of the River Dart and are connected by car and passenger ferries that travel to and fro throughout the day and evening.
The two towns have very different characters: sitting on the Torbay side of the river, Kingswear is the quieter relation. Largely residential, but with enough shops to keep the fridge stocked, and set into the steep river bank most of the houses enjoy fantastic views across the water to Dartmouth. Kingswear is the perfect base if you can’t choose between Torbay and the South Hams, providing easy access to both.
Arguably the food capital of Devon, Dartmouth sits on the South Hams side of the Dart and is home to a number of very high quality restaurants and numerous delicatessens and cafes. The town provides excellent shopping for those seeking something special, whether that be a piece of art or clothing. The river banks are busy here, with ferries coming and going from Kingswear, Totnes, Torquay and Dartmouth Castle.
