Dog friendly breaks in Newquay!

Posted by Anthony in Pet friendlyNewquayLuxury HolidaysDog BlogCornwall

Blue Chip Vacations' holiday advisor and resident dog blogger SuSusie and Deefasie Walker, with the help of her English Bullmastiff Deefa, report on the wide range of dog-friendly breaks we offer. This week it's the beautiful North Cornwall town of Newquay.

If you own a dog then I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that my dog is my top priority both at home and when we go on holiday, which is why it is so important to find the best property and best location in order to accommodate all of his needs and my own of course!

Over 40 Blue Chip Newquay properties accept pets, making it arguably one of the best towns to holiday in with your four legged companion. Newquay itself has five fantastic beaches which allow dogs all year round as well as a further three beaches which have some restrictions applied throughout the summer months.

Many of the dog friendly beaches offer something a little bit different to suit everyone's needs, from golden sand to famous surf spots, you can guarantee that you and your canine companion will have a fantastic time exploring them all!

Fistral Beach, Great A basset on holidayWestern Beach, The Harbour, Towan Beach and Holywell Bay, are all dog friendly Beaches all year round so there should be something for everyone.

Fistral, one of Newquays most popular beaches and one of Deefa's personal favourites, is accessible throughout the year for dogs and its vast expanse of sand is overlooked by some of Newquays most prestigious properties. It is worth noting, however that although many people enjoy Fistral beach and surfers make the most of the waves, these waves can be particularly fierce so it is not always wise to allow your dog into the sea for a swim.

A more popular beach for dogs who like to take a dip is Porth Beach. This is a sandy beach which is popular with families as there is less swell here enabling humans and dogs to take a dip safely in the brisk Atlantic Sea.....if you're brave enough! This beach comes well equipped with toilets and cafes so that you have all of the essential amenities to hand.

One of my favourite things to do when visiting Newquay is to take a relaxing Fistral beach, Newquaywalk along Pentire Headland. From here you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic views from Crantock all the way round to Fistral and you may even spot seals if you're lucky! Not only is this a fantastic varied walk for dogs and owners young or old but you can also head down to Lewinnick Lodge Bar and Restaurant and treat yourself to a relaxing drink or meal whilst enjoying the stunning views out across the ocean. Lewinnick Lodge Bar is definitely on my to do list every time I visit Newquay with Deefa as well behaved dogs are welcomed here with open arms, even the big slobbery ones!

Finally, amid the planning of your luxury vacation for human and hound please don't forget to bear in mind safety for your furry friends. You may not be aware that there are many hazards in and around Cornwall that you may not generally have at home such as steep cliffs, powerful seas and adders which can bite. If your dog is anything like Deefa then they may be intrigued by sheer drops and they might even think that it is possible for them to climb down a cliff......sometimes it's best just to keep them on the lead, lugging a 10 stone bull mastiff up a cliff isn't easy!

If these canine capers have got you wanting to take a pet-friendly break in the South West, don't paws for a second, check out our amazing array of pet-friendly Newquay properties today! Plus, book a break at Horizons, Newquay before the end of March 2010 and your dog can stay for free!
