Kingswear is situated on the banks of the River Dart, and has a lively villagey feel to it without being part of the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. Regular car and passenger ferries cross the River Dart to Dartmouth, where you will find beautiful boutiques, antiques, art galleries and plenty of restaurants and café’s, including the famous New Angel. You can also take a boat trip to Torquay and Brixham, taking in more of the spectacular coastline.
Kingswear village is a quiet retreat and comprises a village store, a post office, and a few pubs and restaurants.
The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway finishes here and is a step back in time to a forgotten era. It runs from April to October and on selected days in December for special Christmas trips, and cuts through some of the most beautiful countryside on the English Riviera.
Close by is the National Trust property, Coleton Fishacre, an Arts and Crafts-style house with an elegant Art Deco-influenced interior. The gardens are particularly spectacular and include many rare and exotic plants.
By car, Brixham is 4 miles, Paignton is 7 miles and the cosmopolitan town of Torquay is 11 miles away.
