Cornwall’s indulgent capital

Cottages in Truro

A photo of Truro Situated centrally in Cornwall between the north and south coasts, Truro is a bustling holiday base from which to explore Cornwall and is full of history and culture, mixed in with modern day chic.

The most noticeable attraction is Truro’s magnificent Victorian Cathedral which rises effortlessly from the cobbled streets of the town centre. It was built in the gothic style using modern building techniques to give the wonderful building you can see today.

The city of Truro is a place where stunning Victorian and Georgian architecture blends in sympathetically with the new and offers a wealth of entertainment ranging from theatre, concerts, galleries, a cinema, live music, nightlife and a range of café’s, bistro’s and restaurants, and was even named the top major town or city in the West Country in the Best Local Food awards. Indeed, every taste is truly catered for.

Truro provides a sophisticated base from which to explore Cornwall’s attractions which are all within about an hours drive. The popular The Eden Project in St Austell, The National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, St Michaels Mount and Lands End are all within an easy drive.

There are numerous beaches either on the rugged north coast, including surfing beaches such as Fistral, Watergate Bay and Perranporth (famous for the television lifeguard series); while on the south coast there are secluded coves and calmer waters, with Carhays and Gorran being two popular destinations. Both coasts are less than a 30 minute drive from Truro.

Another popular attraction in the city is the River that flows under the roads and buildings down to the tidal river at Newham. There are many walks and boat trips to be enjoyed along the river, where you will pass charming villages and wooded creeks along the way. From Easter to October there are ferries that offer trips up and down the river to places such as Falmouth, St Mawes and Malpas.

From the beautiful floral displays in the spring to the famous City of Lights parade in the winter Truro really does have something to offer all year round.
